Ring Binder and Folders Information

Materials and construction information

Vinyl
Vinyl has a large colour range, also available in a range of leather grains, patterns and expanded (padded) type materials.
Vinyl unlike polypropylene, is welded around cardboard reinforcing to make supported ring binders & folders.
Vinyl gives a better weld strength, flexibility and finish when welding pockets to hold items such as travel documents, car service books, business cards, CD’s, DVD’s, video cassettes, brochures, material swatches, pens and much more……..
Vinyl, Polypropylene, Paper are the most commonly used materials,
Polypropylene
(Polypropylene is abbreviated to PP.)
PP is supplied in solid colours and translucent colour range.
Translucent materials are the most commonly used range of material and loved by designers for the effects it can portray with a little design and only a 1 or 2 colour screen print is required.
PP is cut and creased to shape and can be welded together for a range of applications. (Abbey is a market leader in welding PP).
PP is very robust and hard wearing but not as flexible as PVC for pockets and weld finish.
Polypropylene
Casemade
Casemade is wrapping paper’s, cloth and leather to board supporting.
We can case make a 4 colour Offset/Litho print or we have a range of graphic papers such as metallic finishes. We also offer cloths and the timeless class of leather.

Pockets can be added to these products using adhesive backed pockets.
Casemade binders are not a cheaper option than Encapsulated vinyl binders “see below.”
Printing / Corporate Branding
Screen Printing – direct onto materials.(click for artwork specs page) Most corporate logos are printed in a spot colours with clients supplying the PMS colour numbers for Abbey to print.
We also print in 4 colour process at 85 dpi directly onto the PVC or Polypropylene.

Spot colour is a lot cheaper to setup and run than 4 colour process print.
An imaginative design using a screen print of just two colours can give a great artistic finish.
Digital Printing – direct onto materials. Great for short runs and 4 colour graphics.
Note; This is not a cheap printing option.

Foil Printing – direct onto materials.(click for artwork specs page) Foils mainly used to print Gold & Silver.
Foil gives a true metallic print when using Gold or Silver unlike ink. Foil suppliers do offer a very basic colour range only but it's best to use screen printing for colours .
Foil isn't a cost affective option for multiple colour prints and foils can’t print half tones again use screen printing.
Debossing – direct onto materials.(click for artwork specs page) Recessing text or your company logo into the product.
Litho/Offset Printing
Once only used to print on paper, we can now litho print on plastic. Litho printing on plastic gives a great print finish.

We can offer litho printing on .32mm white PVC and on Polypropylene there is a range of solid and translucent material colours.

Litho is very expensive under 2,000 units but we are happy to quote smaller quantities. In small quantities of binders and wallets try Encapsulating in a vinyl product this will still achieve a great print finish at a fraction of the cost.

We can only litho print on polypropylene up to 1mm over this thickness we screen print in 4 colour process.
Encapsulating
We seal printed inserts into the covers of the binder, giving the best display and presentation of your graphics.

Cutting the printed inserts to the full size of the binder gives the appearance that the graphics are actual printed directly to the material.

Let Abbey seal in your inserts, it’s a far better finish.

Abbey can help you source your printing requirements we print small quantities in house (see artwork specifications).
Insert or Overlay (insertable binder)
Maybe consider an Encapsulated Binder it will save you money.

Is a full clear pocket over the front of the binder, open at the top for inserting printed paper inserts as you require them.

Printed inserts for an overlay binder need to be cut a lot smaller than the inserts printed for an encapsulated binder. Printed inserts cut for and overlay (insertable) binder shows unsightly gaps and also
allows them to be removed. (see the picture of the “Insert Binder”) Please note if you don’t need the ability to insert repeatedly different binder labeling then Encapsulating gives a far superior finish to your
binders and can’t be removed, why not use Abbey's labour at a very small cost to insert the printed inserts, not your staff’s valuable time. Graphic Board Reinforcing/Support (PVC & Casemade Only)

1.00mm thick for supplying some support for your soft cover folder.

1.60mm thick a very good cost affective board thickness for any binder.

2.25mm thick we quote 2.25mm board as the standard thickness for all ring binders.

3.00mm thick gives the best support and finish to any ring binder, if your budget can afford it you will not regret the quality it provides.
