Screen Printing Specifications

Artwork, Proof & Print Process

  1. Abbey will supply our client with a dieline drawing of the product for your artwork to be positioned onto. (click to view an example) (see K 0001.pdf)
  2. Abbey will supply our client with an inkjet or laser printed proof for a print approval. The proof will be printed in CMYK with PMS matching profile, which can’t always produce a true PMS colour. The proof is used to show the client position, text and colours, so please check the proof carefully. This proof must be returned to be used in production by our printing staff.   3. The above step will be removed at the clients risk if the client wishes a quick turnaround time.

 

Electronic Files

  1. We use PC’s and accept the following graphic file formats; .eps .ai .pdf.
  1. Files supplied in Quark Xpress will be output by a third party and this will be at the customer’s expense.
  2. Fonts, please convert all fonts to outlines. Minimum font size is 7pt.
  3. Bleeds allow for 5mm outside the key lines. (see point 12 also)
  4. We do not accept logos in (check this with SES for picture files)JPEG, BMP, TIFF, these files cannot be used for producing film.
  5. Please accompany your file with a PDF version as well.
 

Screen Print Additional Info.

  1. Achieving true PMS colours on some of the substrates may not be possible due to translucent and dark materials to achieve the best match to your PMS a white may have to go down first and this will be counted as 1 extra colour.
  2. 25% ink coverage is quoted as standard, large areas will incur additional cost, which we can advise you of at time of sight of final art or film.
  3. Ink over creases and welds generally rupture so please consider this when designing your artwork. You may wish to stop the print 3mm from the crease or the end of the material and create this into a feature. (click to view an example)
  4. Tones, there are 2 options for clients when using a tone of a colour in your print.
    1. If you wish to tone a colour being used to save on expense we have to break it down and this is done by breaking it up into dots and can be seen if you look closely at the print. (click to view an example)
    2. If you wish a nice clean solid tone the best way is to print this as another colour, it will add expense as a 2nd colour. (click to view an example)
 

Foil Printing & Deboss Specifications

Artwork, Print Process

  1. Abbey will supply our client with a dieline drawing of the product for your artwork to be positioned onto.
  2. Stamping Blocks for foil printing and debossing are similar to a rubber stamp but made from metal and heated.
  3. Foil/Debossing can’t reproduce half tones, we only print solids.
  4. We require the artwork in a simple black and white image. Black area is the print/deboss area and the white is the none print area. The edges must be sharp, as the quality you supply will only drop a little when transferred to a print block.
 

Electronic Files

  1. We use PC’s and accept the following graphic file formats; .eps .ai .pdf. We will also accept a word document file for basic text blocks (not for image or logo blocks)
 

Foil/Debossing Additional Info

  1. Large areas of solid foil print can get light breaking or spotting of the print which will show through the material or substrate.
  2. Foil printing is more expensive in multiple positions than screen printing. Foil should only be used for debossing or true Gold and Silver foil printing.

Artwork Terms

  1. Artwork adjustments will be at the customer’s expense, if not supplied to Abbey’s specification and positioning. This includes Colour Separations, Layouts, Typesetting and all Amendments to art supplied by you.
  2. Abbey will not take responsibility for artwork supplied.
  3. Additional film will be at the customer expense.
  4. If Film is supplied it must be POSITIVE, RIGHT READING AND EMULSION UP, FULLSCALE ie 100%, AND AT 85 DPI. Our lowest achievable stipple for screen printing is 10%.
